The kingdom of Heaven is like the generous master,
Of the household who went out early morning,
For his vineyard,to seek and hire working laborer,
Agreed for a dinarius per day workers were willing,
He sent them to his vineyard that was much nearer.
In the third hour some were idle in the marketplace,
He asked them also to go in to the vineyard,
Whatever is right I will give you out of my own grace,
Made their way forward believing on the accord,
Such a owner so much kind to the toiling workforce.
Again he went about on the sixth and ninth hour,
For he was too good again he did likewise,
Again on the eleventh hour some were idle there,
Why do you idle here?they said,"No one hired us",
Go to the vineyard you will receive rights whatever.
The Lord of the vineyard said to his steward,
"Call the laborers and pay their due wages"
The last came received a dinarius, raised eyes upward,
The first came expected much higher out of largess,
But received one only, they murmured against the Lord.
We have borne the burden of the scorching sun,
'Friend I am doing you no wrong, don't look aghast,
Paying equally is my desire and my right' no fun,
So the last will be the first and the first last,
For many are called only a few are chosen.
